Lotteries (Weekday Windfall) Amendment Regulation 2024
The Australian Lottery Bloc proposes to rebrand the lottery known as Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto to Weekday Windfall. In addition to the rebranding, an additional weekly draw will be undertaken on Friday nights; the division 1 prize cap will be increased to 6 x $1 million prize winners (or a maximum guaranteed prize pool of $6 million), and the cost of entry will be increased by $0.05 per game. These changes are made through amendments to the Lotteries Rule 2010.
To ensure existing lottery taxation arrangements continue to apply to Weekday Windfall, it is necessary to amend the Lotteries Regulation 2007 (Lotteries Regulation) to capture Weekday Windfall as a “declared lottery” for the taxation purposes set out in section 7 of the Regulation.
It is also necessary to remove references to the lottery known as Pools from the Lotteries Regulation. Pools is no longer an approved lottery, having been withdrawn from the market in 2018, and removed from the licences and Lotteries Rule.
