Foster and kinship carer handbook (PDF)

As a foster or kinship carer, you undertake one of the most important roles in our community — providing a secure, caring environment for children and young people and building their self-confidence to help them fulfil their potential.

Without you, the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services could not provide quality care to over 8000 children in need of out-of-home care in Queensland.

The foster and kinship carer handbook is designed to support you in your day-to-day caring role, by providing a wealth of information about the range of supports available to you. This includes information about home visits, telephone support, short breaks when you need them, carer allowances and other Queensland and Commonwealth Government benefits. The handbook also contains contributions from other foster and kinship carers, with helpful tips to make your task a bit easier.

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to the children and young people of Queensland, whose lives are enriched through your care.
