Index: Correspondence - Aboriginal peoples, and Torres Strait Islander peoples

The correspondence records of the Colonial Secretary’s Office and the Home Secretary's Office are a valuable source of information relating to Queensland Aboriginals in the nineteenth century. The records consist of letters and reports covering a range of topics including accounts of daily life from Government officials including the Native Police, blanket distribution, medical assistance and administrative changes to Aboriginal policy. There are also several references to Torres Strait Islanders, mainly in the reports from the Government Resident at Somerset (Cape York) and the Government Resident on Thursday Island.
