Policy – Acquiring and exhibiting category C2 species
All non-indigenous species (excluding dingo and European rabbit) are identified as Category C species under the Exhibited Animals Act 2015. Category C species are also identified as prohibited matter under the Biosecurity Act 2014. Category C is further classified into authorised animals of a species prescribed by regulation (Category C1) and all other Category C authorised animals (Category C2). Category C2 species are species that can only be approved under the Exhibited Animals Act 2015 to be exhibited at a fixed exhibit. An authority can be obtained by entities in the business of exhibiting animals at a particular address for the purpose of allowing members of the public to enter a particular address and view the exhibited animals.
