Youth Detention Inspection Reports

The Youth Detention Inspectorate is an internal oversight and continuous improvement function of the Youth Detention Centres including West Moreton Youth Detention Centre, Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, and Cleveland Youth Detention Centre. Inspections are conducted in accordance with section 263(4) of the Youth Justice Act 1992 and are required to occur on a quarterly basis (four annually). The Inspectorate monitors the operation of detention centres including security, operational and case management, and the safe custody and wellbeing of young people. The focus is on improvement of service delivery to young people in detention including learning and development around strengths, vulnerabilities, and best practice based on current policy, procedure, legislation, and research. On completion of each inspection, a written report is compiled, with an executive summary and response from the Youth Detention Operations and Reform published.
