Chapter 5.5 - Issuing arrest warrants
An arrest warrant authorises a police officer to arrest a particular person, take them into custody and then bring them before a court. As a JP, you ensure the warrant is necessary and there is enough evidence to support allegations. This important role is described in this chapter of the Duties of Justices of the Peace (Qualified) and Commissioners for Declarations handbook.
This chapter relates to duties which can only be carried out by Justices of the Peace (Qualified).
This chapter should be read in conjunction with Chapter 4.1- Witnessing documents - general procedure and Chapter 4.6 - Administering oaths and affirmations.
