Discussion Paper 3 sought community feedback on women and girls’ experience of sexual violence in the criminal justice system, as well as the experience of women and girls as offenders. The Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce (WSJT) invited input from women and girls about their experiences as accused/offenders with police, lawyers and the criminal justice system, including sentencing and whilst in custody, and their re-integration into the community. They also sought input from the broader community, including from experts and academics working in these fields, about protecting and promoting human rights and how to best protect the rights of the victim while ensuring the accused person’s right to a fair trial. This discussion paper poses a series of questions throughout, designed to provoke thought and consideration of specific issues.

The consultation period for this paper has now closed.
